Condolence Message on the passing of Senator Deoroop Teemal

Her Excellency Christine Carla Kangaloo O.R.T.T., President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, expresses her heartfelt condolences on the passing of Senator Deoroop Teemal, esteemed President of the National Council of Indian Culture (NCIC) and Independent Senator in the 13th Republican Parliament.

Senator Teemal first entered the Senate in 2018 as an Independent Senator in the 11th Republican Parliament and continued to serve with distinction, dedication, and unwavering professionalism until his passing. A committed advocate for cultural preservation and development, he was widely respected for his integrity, patriotism, and service to the nation.

Outside of his parliamentary contributions, Senator Teemal was a highly accomplished Civil and Structural Engineer and Project Manager with over 37 years of experience. His expertise in project management, contract administration, construction implementation, and water and wastewater engineering was sought after by major national agencies, including the Ministry of Works, NIPDEC, WASA, and the Gaspar Grande Water Supply Project.

Her Excellency extends her deepest sympathy to Senator Teemal’s family, friends, colleagues, and the wider national community who mourn the loss of a man whose life was dedicated to service, culture, and country.

May he rest in peace.

The Office of the President of the Republic of T&T
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEOffice of the President Explains Constitutional Role Amid Scandalous Social Media ClaimsPort-of-Spain Trinidad and TobagoApril 25, 2026The Office of the President notes with grave concern a publication being circulated on social media which makes reckless and wholly improper insinuations against the Office of the President. The Office of the President rejects any attempt to portray either the Office of the President or Her Excellency as the author, architect, or wrongdoer in respect of any transaction involving the State. In the constitutional order of Trinidad and Tobago, the President performs functions in accordance with the Constitution and the laws of the Republic, including, where applicable, on the advice of Cabinet or a Minister acting under Cabinet authority pursuant to section 80 (1) of the Constitution of Trinidad and Tobago. The language used in the publication is an affront, not only to the dignity of the highest office in the land, but to the standards of decency, responsibility and respect upon which any democratic society must depend. The suggestion that the Office of the President has been “prostituted” in relation to any financial arrangement is to be condemned in the strongest possible terms. It is a scandalous and degrading slur. It is especially repugnant that the article names the current holder of the Office of President.Trinidad and Tobago cannot preserve public trust if its most solemn institutions are treated as targets for insult, innuendo and viral defamation. Robust scrutiny is part of democracy. Scurrilous attacks are not. They corrode respect for lawful authority, weaken public confidence and injure the democratic fabric of the Republic. The Office of the President will issue any further statement as the facts require. ...
