Her Excellency Christine Carla Kangaloo, O.R.T.T., President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, expresses her heartfelt condolences on the passing of Felix “Sugar Fingers” Roach, renowned pianist, music director and cultural icon.
Mr. Roach, one of Trinidad and Tobago’s most accomplished and beloved musicians, dedicated his life to music and performance, captivating and inspiring generations of audiences. Beginning his musical journey at the tender age of seven, Mr Roach went on to demonstrate exceptional mastery of the piano, collaborating with numerous artistes and musical ensembles, while also sharing his talents generously with church choirs and other religious groups.
A Berklee-trained pianist, Mr. Roach was well-regarded for his artistry and versatility, and in 2004 was awarded the Hummingbird Medal (Gold) for his outstanding contribution to the arts.
Her Excellency extends her deepest sympathy to Mr. Roach’s family, friends, colleagues and the wider national community as we honour the memory of a man whose extraordinary talent and service greatly enriched the cultural landscape of our nation.
May he rest in peace.
