Our national pride was on full display at the Queen’s Park Savannah on Independence Day as the nation came together to celebrate the 64th anniversary of Trinidad and Tobago’s Independence.
Proceedings officially began when Her Excellency Christine Carla Kangaloo ORTT, President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces arrived to inspect the parade.
Arrayed in their finery, buttons gleaming and shoes polished to a spit-shine finish, the men and women of the Armed Forces and other uniformed services marched with discipline and precision, delighting the crowds gathered to witness this annual display of national pride.
Following the parade, Her Excellency raised the official Toast to the Nation at the National Academy for the Performing Arts, reflecting on the meaning of Independence and the responsibility we share in shaping the country we wish to become.
“A nation needs both: the discipline to protect what it values, and the imagination to build what it has not yet become.”
Her Excellency called on citizens to face the challenges before us honestly, while holding firmly to our confidence in Trinidad and Tobago and our regard for one another.
