In observance of World Glaucoma Week 2019, staff of the Office of the President were screened for Glaucoma by Dr. Desiree Murray, Chairperson of The Volunteers for World Sight Day and a team of experts on Thursday March 14, 2019.
First to be screened at 9am was Her Excellency Paula-Mae Weekes ORTT, President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. Her Excellency urged other government offices and private companies to follow suit and encourage their staff to be screened for this disease of the eyes.
Glaucoma is the leading cause of blindness in Trinidad and Tobago. The tragedy is that, with early detection through screening such as what was conducted at the OTP yesterday, blindness from the disease is completely preventable.
