Having agreed to be this country’s Chief Scout, Her Excellency Paula-Mae Weekes was briefed about her duties by members of the Scout Association of Trinidad and Tobago recently. Introducing themselves with the traditional Scout’s left-handed handshake, Commodore Anthony Franklin, President, Mr. Michael Bradshaw, 2nd Vice President, Mr. Damian Clark, National Youth Commissioner and Chair, National Youth Council, Ms. Mohini Seejattan, Vice Chair, National Youth Council and Mr. Roger N. C. Berkeley, National Scout Commissioner, gave Her Excellency some insight into the background and development of the local arm of the world famous organisation. They explained how the movement has changed over the years to meet the needs of the society welcoming Her Excellency as their first female Chief Scout. As testament to the positive impact of their association, Commodore Franklin informed Her Excellency that no person who has ever been a Scout has ever appeared before the courts or been in trouble with the law. While commending their past achievements, Her Excellency is urging the Scouts to increase their outreach in the marginalised communities of Trinidad and Tobago.
