Presentation of Credentials: Apostolic Nuncio of the Holy See

There is a new Apostolic Nuncio of the Holy See to Trinidad and Tobago.
His Excellency the Most Reverend Santiago De Wit Guzmàn, Titular Archbishop of Gabala on Thursday last presented his credentials to Her Excellency Paula-Mae Weekes O.R.T.T., President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago at The President’s House.
Reverend Father Luciano Labanca, Nunciature Secretary and Deputy Head of Mission accompanied the new Nuncio.
Mr. Jon Mark Dean, High Commissioner -designate of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, presented his credentials to Her Excellency Christine Carla Kangaloo ORTT, President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, on January 16, 2025 at The President's House. ABOUT OUR SEVEN PRESIDENTS Trinidad and Tobago gained its first President when we became a Republic on 1 August, 1976. Before that, the Head of State of Trinidad and Tobago was the Queen of England. The Queen was represented by a Governor before Trinidad and Tobago's Independence in 1962 and a Governor-General thereafter. The 1976 Constitution abolished the position of Governor-General and established the Office of President.Sir Ellis Clarke became the first President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago in 1976. Sir Ellis was an attorney and diplomat, and one of the main architects of Trinidad and Tobago's 1962 Independence constitution.
