Installation Ceremony of the new Council of the Blind Welfare Association

On Thursday, May 15th, 2025, the Blind Welfare Association of Trinidad and Tobago celebrated the Installation Ceremony of its New Council at a ceremony hosted under the esteemed patronage of His Excellency Kerwyn Garcia SC, First Gentleman of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

The ceremony which took place at the President’s House, saw 10 newly elected Council Members installed to lead the organization in its continued mission of advocacy, empowerment, and service:

1. Mr. Deonarine Ragoo – President

2. Mr. Neil Ramcharan – 1st Vice President

3. Mrs. Crystal Dass-Ramsahai – 2nd Vice President

4. Ms. Latoya Tannis – Council Member

5. Mr. George Berrios – Council Member

6. Mrs. Alisha Hosein – Council Member

7. Ms. Seprah Hastick – Council Member

8. Mr. Anil Maharaj – Council Member

9. Mr. Ronald Carlos Greene – Council Member

10. Mr. Jesse Paul – Council Member

In his feature address, His Excellency highlighted the organization’s enduring legacy, stating:

“One hundred and eleven years of advocacy, empowerment, and support for the blind and visually impaired community is no small feat… You have stood as a beacon of hope, championing the rights and dignity of persons with visual impairments…”

He further challenged the new council to deepen their impact by promoting education, inclusion, and full integration of blind and visually impaired individuals into every aspect of national life. Click to view full feature address .

On Saturday 11th October, 2025, Their Excellencies Christine Carla Kangaloo ORTT, President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and Kerwyn Garcia, S.C., First Gentleman attended the 75th anniversary celebrations of the Syrian Lebanese Women’s Association of Trinidad and Tobago. Their Excellencies were first taken on a guided tour of a ‘living museum’ which showcased the rich history, traditions and contributions of the SLWA and the wider Syrian-Lebanese community in Trinidad and Tobago.
