Her Excellency Christine Carla Kangaloo, O.R.T.T., President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago extends condolences to the family, friends and the countless students on the passing of Mr. Glenn de Souza, owner and founder of the Dragon Keylemanjahro School of Arts & Culture.
According to the Carnival Institute of Trinidad and Tobago, “Since 1986, Dragon stood tall on the stilts of tradition, reviving the Moko Jumbie art form and using it as a force for change. Through his Keylemanjahro School of Arts & Culture, he steered young people away from crime and towards discipline, pride, and artistry, training over 3,000 bands and crafting costumes from recycled materials.”
Glenn ‘Dragon’ de Souza will be remembered for his dedication to teaching, preserving and celebrating Trinidad and Tobago’s rich culture and traditions.
Mr. Glenn de Souza was awarded the Hummingbird Medal Gold in the sphere of culture at the 2024 National Awards Ceremony.
