She was the undisputed queen of the lyric-laden calypso, spotlighting the scourge of sexual harassment in the workplace decades before doing so became an international movement.

Mother, as many in the entertainment fraternity called Singing Sandra, led by example. She lived with dignity and purpose, unstintingly sharing her abundant knowledge, prodigious talent and wealth of experience with the young (women especially) aspirants to her throne.

The consummate professional, Sandra des Vignes-Millington delivered powerful performances from the depths of her very being leaving it all on the stage every single time she sang.

Then, having established her dominance in the Calypso arena, Singing Sandra, produced her ode to Paramin a runaway hit and instant classic in the Parang genre.

Her Excellency Paula-Mae Weekes O.R.T.T., President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago extends her personal and heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, fans and indeed all citizens on this great loss to our nation.

Thank you Singing Sandra, Chantuelle, Calypso Monarch, Mother, Role Model Extraordinaire. We mourn your loss. May you rest peacefully in the arms of your God.
