His Excellency William Bush, Ambassador of the Republic of Colombia to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago paid a farewell courtesy call on Her Excellency Christine Carla Kangaloo ORTT, President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago on Wednesday 14 October, 2026 at The President’s House.The outgoing Ambassador was accompanied by Ms. Cheyenne Lee, Executive Assistant and Adviser to the Ambassador, and Ms. Celeste Reid, Personal Assistant.Ambassador Bush first presented his credentials on Friday 9 June, 2023, at the first Presentation of Credentials ceremony hosted by Her Excellency following her assumption of office in March of that year.During the farewell visit, Her Excellency thanked the Ambassador for his service and extended her best wishes for his future endeavours.
As Trinidad and Tobago continues to mourn the passing of one of its most iconic cultural figures, Their Excellencies Christine Carla Kangaloo, ORTT, President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and Kerwyn Garcia, SC, First Gentleman, paid tribute to the late Honourable Slinger “Mighty Sparrow” Francisco ORTT, CM, HBM, OCC, OBE, earlier today, Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at the National Academy for the Performing Arts (NAPA), where his body lies in repose.Their Excellencies also met with members of the family of the late “Calypso King of the World,” who passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at the age of 91.
His Excellency Peter Neven, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago presented his Letters of Credence to Her Excellency Christine Carla Kangaloo, ORTT, President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago on Tuesday October 13, 2026 at The President’s House.Also present to witness the ceremony were his spouse, Mrs. Aigul Neven, and Mr. Martin Langer, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany.Her Excellency welcomed the Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago and wished him every success in his new post.
Mr. H.R. Ian Roach and Mr. Peter Elias have both been reappointed to the Equal Opportunity Commission, each for a further three-year term.Mr. Roach will continue to serve as Commissioner and Chairman, while Mr. Elias will continue as a Commissioner.The reappointments were made by Her Excellency Christine Carla Kangaloo, ORTT, President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, on Monday 12 October 2026.Mr. H. R. Ian Roach is an Attorney-at-law with Chancery Chambers and the Chairman of the Equal Opportunity Commission. With over three decades of international legal experience, he specialises in public and labour law, with emphasis on negotiation, mediation and lobbying on behalf of governments and firms.Mr Roach is the holder of a Bachelor of Arts in History and Law and a Bachelor of Laws with Honours, both from the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill. He also holds a Legal Education Certificate from the Hugh Wooding Law School. Mr. Roach served as Honorary Consul of Trinidad and Tobago to South Africa from 1999 to 2005 and advised the Chief Prosecutor at the International Criminal Court in The Hague in 2006. At various times between 2010 and 2023, he presided over several courts-martial as Judge Advocate for the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force. From 2013 to 2016, he was an Independent Senator, serving on several parliamentary committees and chairing the Joint Select Committee on Local Authorities, Service Commissions and Statutory Authorities, including the Tobago House of Assembly.Mr. Peter Elias is a businessman with over three decades of experience in retail, fashion and event-related industries, serving the commercial needs of the public and providing employment to a diverse cross-section of society. Mr. Elias is a member of the Advisory Council for Arts, Letters, Culture and Public Affairs; The Academy for the Performing Arts; Fashion and Design at the University of Trinidad and Tobago, and he has assisted in the development of Trinidad and Tobago’s human resource through his association with various charitable causes.Mr. Elias holds a Bachelors of Finance and Economics, with a minor in Art History from the University of Western Ontario, Ontario, Canada, and is a past pupil of Queen's Royal College, Port of Spain.
World Sight Day | 8 October 2026On World Sight Day, the Office of the President joins the global call to raise awareness of the importance of eye health and the need for accessible eye care.With an estimated 2.2 billion people worldwide living with vision impairment, regular vision checks can help identify problems early and ensure that people receive the care they need.His Excellency Kerwyn Garcia, SC, First Gentleman of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and Patron of the Trinidad and Tobago Blind Welfare Association, encourages everyone to prioritise their vision and eye health, have their eyes checked regularly and support efforts to ensure that persons living with visual impairment have access to the care and support they need.Protecting our sight can begin with something as simple as a vision check. 👁️
