Mrs. Kamla Persad-Bissessar S.C., M.P., today received her Instrument of Appointment as Leader of the Opposition from Her Excellency Paula-Mae Weekes, O.R.T.T., President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, at President’s House.
The Honourable the Chief Justice, Mr Justice Ivor Archie ORTT; the President of the Senate, Senator the Honourable Christine Kangaloo; the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Honourable Bridgid Annisette George and the Minister of Planning and Development and Representative of the Prime Minister, the Honourable Camille Robinson-Regis were on hand to witness the appointment. Also witnessing the ceremony were the other 18 UNC Members of Parliament.
In her remarks, President Weekes congratulated the Leader of the Opposition on her appointment and wished her the greatest success and fulfilment in leading her vibrant team in the service of the nation. She extended a special welcome to the young, new faces among the Members of Parliament and outlined their critical role in the nation’s democratic machinery.
The evening’s proceeding’s ended with a toast by Her Excellency to the newly-appointed Leader of the Opposition.
