The Office of the President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago proudly hosted its second annual Spiritual Shouter Baptist Liberation Day Exhibition from March 23 to 25, 2026, in the Ballroom of The President’s House.
The exhibition, mounted by the Spiritual Baptist Faith Inc. and the Heritage Library Division of the National Library and Information System Authority (NALIS), offered a rich and immersive exploration of the history, resilience and enduring legacy of the Spiritual Baptist faith in Trinidad and Tobago.
Over the course of the three-day exhibition, 281 students from six schools were welcomed to The President’s House, where they engaged with displays and narratives chronicling the struggle for religious freedom and the ultimate liberation of the Spiritual Baptist community. Students were also reminded of the significance of 2026, which marks 75 years since the repeal of the Shouter Prohibition Ordinance in 1951, as well as 30 years since Spiritual Shouter Baptist Liberation Day was declared a public holiday.
The initiative forms part of the ongoing commitment of Her Excellency Christine Carla Kangaloo, O.R.T.T., President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, to open the House and grounds of The President’s House to activities that promote culture, education and intellectual enrichment. In particular, the exhibition underscores a deliberate focus on youth engagement, providing young citizens with opportunities to deepen their understanding of the nation’s heritage within one of its most historic institutions.
Through initiatives such as this exhibition, the Office of the President continues to transform The President’s House into a vibrant space for cultural expression and learning—serving not only as a symbol of national pride, but as a living centre for intellectual, cultural and artistic exploration.
