She was a pioneer who became a legend. There is no doubt that Singing Francine made her mark in this world. As a champion of women experiencing domestic violence she urged them “Woman run away from heeeee! Cat does run away. Dog does run away…when man treating them bad!” Good advice to this day.
Francine Edwards’s extensive body of work encompassed Calypso, Soca and Parang Soca and the four-time National Calypso Queen was awarded the Public Service Medal of Merit Silver in 1975.
On behalf of a grateful nation and on her own behalf, Her Excellency Paula-Mae Weekes ORTT, President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, extends hearfelt condolences to the family, friends and fans of the immortal Singing Francine. May she rest in eternal peace.
