Her Excellency Paula-Mae Weekes O.R.T.T., President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago attended the Sangre Grande Ramleela Committee’s 29th Annual Ramleela Celebrations at the Sangre Grande Hindu Primary School on Sunday October 13th 2019.

Ramleela is the dramatic folk re-enactment of the life of Rama, the seventh avatar of the Hindu god Vishnu. Rama is the central figure of the Ramayana, a Sanskrit epic that integrates performance arts with stories driven by ethical values. The epic text is dated to the 1st millennium BC and Ramleela is an adaptation of those stories.

After the reenactment of the legendary war between Good and Evil, the Ramleela celebrations climax in the Dasara night festivities when the giant effigy of Evil demon Ravana is burnt.
