In commemoration of World Read Aloud Day 2026, Her Excellency Christine Carla Kangaloo, O.R.T.T., President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, hosted Storytime at The President’s House on Wednesday February 4, 2026, reaffirming her commitment to nurturing a lifelong love of reading among the nation’s children.
The initiative brought together 52 students from Moulton Hall Methodist School and Preysal Government Primary School, who joined Her Excellency and members of staff of the Office of the President for a shared reading of ‘That Amazing Capybara’ by Alisa Gomez. The students were also invited to read aloud to Her Excellency, after which she engaged them in a lively question and answer session that encouraged reflection, curiosity, and confident self-expression.
Storytime at The President’s House is designed to promote literacy, reading comprehension, self-confidence, and the general love of reading. Since its inception in 2023, Her Excellency has hosted ten such sessions with Standard Three students from over 25 primary schools.
The first Storytime at The President’s House for 2026 held special significance as it coincided with World Read Aloud Day under the global theme “Celebrate Learning.” The theme underscores the power of reading aloud as a vital tool for learning, imagination, and shared understanding—values that remain central to the initiative.
Through Storytime at The President’s House, Her Excellency continues to champion reading as a foundation for personal growth and national development, inspiring young readers to discover the joy, confidence, and knowledge that books can unlock.
