On Friday 4th July, 2025, Her Excellency Christine Carla Kangaloo ORTT, President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, conferred the nation’s highest award, the Order of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago (ORTT), upon the Honourable Shri Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, during a ceremony at The President’s House.
The Order of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago may be awarded to any person (citizen as well as non-citizen) who has rendered distinguished and outstanding service to Trinidad and Tobago.
Her Excellency, proudly wearing the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award, (the highest honour bestowed by the Republic of India on non-nationals), which she received earlier this year, noted that the ORTT was being conferred in recognition of “the tremendous work that [Prime Minister Modi] has done with our nation over the years, and for the kindness and generosity which [he has] always shown to our country – and indeed, our region.” Her Excellency went on to highlight Prime Minister Modi’s personal intervention during the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure the delivery of 40,000 vaccine doses to Trinidad and Tobago—an act of generosity that, she said, had further strengthened the longstanding relationship between the Governments and people of the two nations.
Following the ceremony, Prime Minister Modi paid a Courtesy Call on Her Excellency in the Credentials Room and signed the Visitor’s Book, marking another meaningful chapter in the enduring friendship between Trinidad and Tobago and India.
