Appointments to the Office of the Auditor General and to the Procurement Board

Her Excellency Christine Carla Kangaloo O.R.T.T., President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, presided over two Swearing-In Ceremonies on Thursday, August 22, 2024.

The first ceremony saw Ms. Gaitrie Maharaj, Deputy Auditor General (Ag.), taking the Oath of Office as Acting Auditor General before Her Excellency. Ms. Maharaj, who holds an ACCA certification and an MBA from Heriot-Watt University , began her career at Price Waterhouse in 1989 and joined the Auditor General’s Department of Trinidad and Tobago as an Audit Senior in 1994. She also spent 5 years as a Senior Auditor at the Cayman Islands Audit Office.

She has served in various capacities within the Auditor General’s Department in Trinidad and Tobago, ultimately ascending to the roles of Divisional Head and Acting Deputy Auditor General. In 2013, she furthered her education with a Master of Sciences in Government from The University of the West Indies.

In the second ceremony, Her Excellency administered the Oath of Office to Mr. Jason Edwards, who was sworn in as a Member of the Procurement Board.

Mr. Jason Edwards has proved to be a strong asset to a number of companies in both the United Kingdom and Trinidad and Tobago through his dedication to spearheading financial and operational growth through careful financial planning and cost-cutting initiatives.

After reading in 1996 for a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, Mr. Edwards spent the next ten years in the United Kingdom in the Health and ICT sectors as a Management Accountant and consultant. Having returned to Trinidad and Tobago, he worked as a Finance Manager in various companies eventually rising to Chief Financial Officer at G4S Secure Solutions in 2015.

From September 2018 to the present, he has been the Finance and Operations Manager for Metropolitan Networks Limited, developing a strategic plan and upgrading management reporting systems. Mr. Edwards has also found the time to work with youth groups as a football coach and is a qualified UEFA Football coach. At present, he acts as a transition mentor for the South African Youth Education for Sustainability Trust.

A National Treasure in Bloom 🇹🇹 🌺The Double Chaconia, Trinidad and Tobago’s national flower, adorns the front lawn of The President’s House. The Double Chaconia, which is both indigenous and unique to Trinidad and Tobago, officially became our national flower in 2019, replacing the single-petal Chaconia which can be found in other parts of the world. Discovered in 1957 in the Blanchisseuse Valley by Grace Walloon (née Atteck) and her companions, including David Auyoung, who later returned to collect cuttings for propagation, every Double Chaconia today descends from that original plant.🌱Today, the Double Chaconia continues to bloom as a living symbol of our national pride, natural heritage, and the enduring beauty found only in Trinidad and Tobago.#DoubleChaconia #NationalFlower #TrinidadAndTobago #PresidentsHouse #TTHeritage #ChaconiaInBloom 🌺🇹🇹 ...
