Tourists Greeted in the Royal Botanical Gardens

His Excellency President Anthony Thomas Aquinas Carmona ORTT, SC made an impromptu visit to the Botanical Gardens on January 21, 2016 and was quickly engaged in conversation by a group of tourists who were sightseeing.  The tourists were from a cruise ship which had Trinidad as one of its ports of call.

They eagerly chatted with the President who explained to them aspects of our culture, folklore and places of interest.  His Excellency also encouraged them to visit the Point a Pierre Wild Fowl trust, the Caroni Swamp, home of the Scarlet Ibis, the Asa Wright Nature Centre and the Pitch Lake.

His Excellency upon hearing that they are going to Rio for Carnival, suggested that they return next year to experience the beauty and rhythm of Trinidad and Tobago’s Carnival.

Members of the group expressed surprise that the President took time off his schedule to greet them with one woman saying this does not happen every day.  She then took the lead and asked to be photographed with President Carmona.  This initiative was quickly followed by others in the group.

The President also said a special hello to three veterans who were in the group.
