The Republic of Trinidad and Tobago today (2nd July, 2016) received the heart-breaking news of the passing of former Prime Minister Patrick Augustus Mervyn Manning. As a statesman and politician of some 41 years, he executed his responsibilities with genuine care and love for the people of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. His visionary and pioneering work in the oil and gas industry, infrastructural development, civil aviation, political and social reform and education, has catapulted our country closer to the attainment of developed Nation status. So many persons of all walks of life, have been progressively and affirmatively touched by his life, his legacy, his work ethic and his vision for a greater and better Trinidad and Tobago. Additionally, his ‘Caribbean-ness’ was beyond question and very dear to his heart. He was a firm believer in Caribbean integration.
His Excellency President Anthony Thomas Aquinas Carmona ORTT, SC today telephoned his wife, Mrs Hazel Manning at their home in Sumadh Gardens, San Fernando and spoke at length to both Mrs Manning and son, David. His Excellency commiserated with them, expressing words of comfort, peace and prayer at the family’s personal loss and the Nation’s great loss. His Excellency also wished that Almighty God will grant solace to the entire family circle including son, Brian who is out of the country in their moment of pain and grief. Mr Manning’s death is indeed a monumental loss to both the Caribbean and this great Republic. May he rest in peace.Share
