Mini National Awards Ceremony

His Excellency Anthony Thomas Aquinas Carmona ORTT, SC President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago hosted a Mini National Awards Ceremony at the Office of the President to confer National Awards on Mr Selby Wilson and Ms Margaret Parillon, on May 25, 2016.

In attendance at the ceremony was the Chief Justice Ivor Archie, chairman of the Awards Committee and family and friends of the awardees.

The Bishop Anstey School Choir who sang the National Anthem and also did a short bit of entertainment.

Mr Selby Wilson was awarded the Chaconia Medal (Gold) in the sphere of National Service. He is a professional accountant, former Member of Parliament and Lecturer at the University of the West Indies. He has also represented Trinidad and Tobago on numerous occasions both regionally and internationally.

Ms Margaret Parillon was awarded the Medal of Merit (Gold) in the sphere of Public Service. She is a retired Permanent Secretary who did pioneering work in the establishment of a Trinidad and Tobago Embassy in Beijing, China. She was also instrumental in visits to this country by the President of the People’s Republic of China, His Excellency Xi Jinping and the Vice President of the USA, Mr Joe Biden. Ms Parillion also participated in the formation of the Diplomatic Academy of the Caribbean at the University of the West Indies.
