President’s Medal Award Ceremony

Sadhana Mary Balladin, Amrita Singh, Joshua Mohan, Cassandra Khan, Saiesh Rampersad and Jada Ramnath, 2018 President’s Medal Awardees were yesterday presented with their medals by Her Excellency Paula-Mae Weekes, ORTT, President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago at a ceremony held at UTT Theatre One, National Academy for the Performing Arts.

The President’s Gold Medal for Higher Education is awarded to the highest performing student at the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) in two categories.

President Weekes met with representatives of NATUC on Tuesday 15th January, 2019, at their request.

Matters discussed included the need for more tripartite (Unions, Government & the Private Sector) discussions including social dialogue; the shortage of judges for the Industrial Court along with their security of tenure; the delay in negotiations for Daily Paid Workers and the possibility of NATUC meeting with the President from time to time.

Farewell Visit from the Outgoing Ambassador of Japan

His Excellency Mitsuhiko Okada, Ambassador of Japan, accompanied by his wife Mrs. Mari Okada paid a farewell visit to Her Excellency Paula-Mae Weekes ORTT on Monday 7th January, 2019.

Ambassador Okada presented his credentials as Ambassador of Japan on August 20, 2015 and has thus served in that capacity for three and a half years. Her Excellency wished the Ambassador and his wife well on their upcoming journey and their future.

President Weekes Hosts Children of Friends of the Country (TOCO)

Her Excellency Paula-Mae Weekes, ORTT hosted 120 children from Friends of the Country (TOCO) to a Christmas Treat on the grounds of President’s House on Sunday 9th December, 2018.
