50th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations The Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and Japan

His Excellency Anthony Thomas Aquinas Carmona ORTT, SC, President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, received His Excellency Ambassador Yoshimasa Tezuka of Japan on a courtesy call on February 11, 2014.

The year 2014 marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two (2) countries and is also Japan-CARICOM Friendship Year. As part of the celebrations commemorating the occasions, a concert by the husband and wife group, Duo Yumeno, titled Melodies Across the Sea will be held at the Queen’s Hall, St Ann’s.

The Ambassador was accompanied by the duo, consisting of Yoko Reikano Kimura playing the Koto (or Japanese Harp) and Hikaru Tamaki playing the Cello.┬áThe duo entertained President Carmona with a performance of their commissioned piece titled “Flower Dance” which was composed by Marty Regan, a professor at Texas A&M University.

His Excellency expressed his admiration of the performance and described it as beautiful, passionate and intense. The duo presented President Carmona with gift of a CD of their music and a brochure by Tamaki.
